V8A sprang out of a number of community discussions in 2007 & 2008. For a time, it was a group of people working on sustainability planning. As some of those efforts began to be taken up by other organizations like Transition Town Powell River, the Powell River Food Security Project, & others, V8A morphed into an email list for discussion of issues of local politics & activism.
